Why four, and why axial

Drying is about air moving across a wet surface. One fan in the middle of the room moves air across one strip of floor. Four movers along the walls, angled at about 45° and pointing the same direction around the room, set up a rotation that sweeps the whole floor and the bottom foot of every wall at once. That's the standard restoration layout and it's on the setup sheet.

Axial movers push a wide, high-volume sheet of air at floor level, which is what you want for floors, carpet and the base of walls. They tilt to 45° and 90° for drying under cabinets or up a wall. They're also quiet enough to leave running in an occupied house, which a centrifugal "snail" blower is not.

Rent these alone when…

You already have a decent dehumidifier running, or the area is small and well ventilated, or you're a contractor with your own dehu who needs more movers for a bigger floor. If the room is closed up and nothing is pulling moisture out of the air, the movers will just make the room feel like a humid wind tunnel — add the dehumidifier or rent the full kit.

Setup

Pull up anything wet that's on top of the floor (rugs, boxes, the bottom of the pile in the closet). Point the movers along the walls, not into them — air across the surface dries it; air blasting straight at drywall mostly just makes noise. Chain them two per cord on the 12-gauge cords in the kit, each cord on its own circuit if you can manage it. Leave them on. They're meant to run 24 hours a day for the whole rental.

Clean water only — supply lines, water heaters, appliances, roof leaks. Movers over contaminated water aerosolize it, which is a different and worse problem than a wet floor.
