When the dehumidifier alone is enough

Rent just the dehumidifier when the surfaces are already mostly dry but the room isn't: a crawlspace or basement that stays damp, a finished dry-out that needs a few more days to get the last of it, a closed-up house that smells like a wet towel, or a contractor who already owns air movers and needs the machine that pulls the moisture out of the air they're moving.

If there's a wet floor, wet drywall or wet cabinets, you want the full kit. A dehumidifier on its own will get the room air dry and leave the subfloor wet for weeks.

LGR vs. the box-store unit

A consumer dehumidifier is rated at 80°F and 60% humidity — a muggy room. Once the air gets below about 40% humidity it stops pulling much of anything, which is exactly when a wet floor still needs dry air. An LGR unit pre-cools the incoming air so it keeps condensing water at low humidity, which is the whole point of a dry-out. Roughly: it keeps working after the cheap one has given up.

It also has a pump. The hardware-store unit has a bucket you empty every four hours or it shuts off. This one pushes the water 50 feet up and out through the hose to a sink, tub, or window, and runs until you turn it off.

Setup

Close the room up — doors, windows, HVAC vents to that room if you can. Set the unit in the middle of the space with the hose running downhill to a drain. Plug it into its own circuit (it pulls 8–10 A on its own). Leave it running. The thermo-hygrometer tells you where the room is; the target during a dry-out is roughly 30–40% RH, and the setup sheet says what to expect day by day.

Delivery, placement and pickup are included. Same clean-water rule as everything else here: if the moisture came from sewage, outside flooding, or has been sitting more than 48 hours, this isn't the right rental.
