How the three machines work together
Air movers push air across the wet surface, pulling moisture out of the floor, drywall and cabinets and into the room air. The dehumidifier pulls that moisture out of the air and pumps it down the drain hose, so the air stays dry enough to keep absorbing. The air scrubber runs HEPA filtration on the room air the whole time — it doesn't dry anything, it keeps the dust and the musty smell from going everywhere while the other two work.
Run one without the others and you get less than half the result. Air movers alone just move humid air around. A dehumidifier alone drops the room humidity but the subfloor stays wet for weeks. That's why the kit is the default and the pieces are the exception.
Moisture readings, both ends
At drop-off I take a reading of the wet area with the pinless meter and note it on the agreement. At pickup I take it again. You see the number drop. If it hasn't, we talk about why before I load the truck — usually the source wasn't fixed, or there's a wet spot under something nobody moved.
The meter stays with you the whole rental, so you can check daily. The laminated setup sheet shows what a dry reading looks like for drywall, OSB and hardwood.
Clean water only. This is not negotiable.
This kit is for Category 1 water — water that came out of a clean pipe or fixture:
- ✓ Supply line and pipe leaks
- ✓ Water heater failures
- ✓ Dishwasher, washer, fridge and ice-maker leaks
- ✓ Roof leaks
- ✓ AC condensate and drain-pan overflow
- ✓ Tub, toilet-tank and sink overflows (clean water)
It is not for:
- ✕ Sewage or toilet-bowl backups
- ✕ Outside floodwater, storm surge, groundwater
- ✕ Standing water that has sat more than 48 hours
- ✕ Anything with visible mold
Contaminated water needs containment, protective gear, antimicrobial treatment and disposal — and blowing air across it spreads it. Water that's sat more than 48 hours has usually started growing something. Those jobs belong with a licensed restoration company, and the rental agreement says so in writing. If you describe one of these on the phone, I'll tell you no and point you somewhere useful.
Power and placement
Everything running at once draws about 20 amps. Put the dehumidifier on one circuit and the air movers and scrubber on another — kitchens and bathrooms usually have a dedicated 20 A circuit nearby. The two 12-gauge cords in the kit are rated for it; a thin cord from the garage will get warm and trip breakers. The setup sheet has a diagram for where to point the movers (along the wall, not at it) and where to run the drain hose (sink, tub, or out a window).
